White Sands of Sebec Lake

We live in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine which is in the north central part of the state. When you look at us on the map one of things that you quickly notice is that we are surrounded by lakes, mountains and lots of timber land and forest. Sebec Lake is one of the largest and prettiest lakes and is only within a few short miles of us so we visit it often.

For many of us Sebec Lake seems like our own private lake since we are often the only ones on it. Recently, while “mom” was visiting Ellen and grandkids I took our three boarding girls and some of their friends to Sebec Lake to play in some of the white sands of Sebec shores. It’s early May and the ice has just gone out, but that didn’t keep the girls from getting in the water.

The lake is boardered on the north end by Borestone Mountain a favorite mountain to climb for adults and kids alike. From its peak you can see 5 different lakes and some say the Canadian boarder. For today, our girls were content to sit on rocks that populate the shoreline of Sebec and just look at Borestone Mountain and its beauty. Of course when I asked them if they would like to climb Borestone Mountain their comment was (and always has been) “maybe tomorrow.” The picture to the left is of You-Jin and Myo Chan perched out on their own rock with Borestone in the background.

Our girls do like to climb, but limited their climbing on this day to the rocky shoreline of Sebec Lake. Our own kids loved “running” up and down the shoreline from rock to rock while trying to avoid slipping and falling into the water. Pictured to the right is You-Jin who has just made her way to a rock which I had “jumped” to in a game of follow the leader. Seuki is following closely behind. As you can see You-Jin is awefully proud of herself….and rightfully so. Unfortunately, a few minutes after this picture was taken You-Jin fell into the 42 degree water…Brrrrr, that’s cold! She was quickly up an out and full of laughter.
